WYNNUM WOLVES FC is excited to announce the appointment of experienced UEFA A Licenced coach, Matt Chandler, as the club’s Senior Men’s Coach for the 2020 season. Chandler will officially step into his new role with Wolves next week with plans to meet the club’s existing senior playing group on Tuesday evening before kicking off pre-season training and trials next Thursday at Carmichael Park.
Wynnum Wolves’ Chairman, Rabieh Krayem, said the appointment of Chandler signals a strong intent by the Bayside club to further build on the excellent foundation of professionalism laid by Wolves’ 2019 Senior Coach, Kerwin Jean-Pierre, who has moved on to an exciting new coaching role with the Brisbane Roar. “Losing Kerwin was a big blow for the club after the quality work he did with the Senior group this season. But it just goes to show that when one door closes, another opens, and I’m confident Matt’s appointment will ensure our Senior program will continue to move in the right direction. There is no doubt Matt has proven runs on the board in terms of coaching and club development in the Queensland NPL and QPL over recent years and we are delighted a coach of his quality has chosen to join us here at Wolves”.
Chandler’s most recent role was as Capalaba FC Football Director, where he oversaw their football programs and eventual promotion from QPL to NPL this season. Previous to this year he spent two years as Senior Head Coach and SAP Director at Sunshine Coast Wanderers FC, helping to establish the Sunshine Coast club in the QPL competition. Notably, Wanderers have also earned promotion to the NPL for 2020, building on the foundations laid by Chandler. From 2011 to 2017 Chandler balanced the roles of Senior Head Coach, Senior Technical Director and Club General Manager at Redlands United in the NPL. During this tenure at Redlands the club enjoyed a string of successes including a Brisbane Premier League Championship in 2012 and a Queensland NPL Championship in 2016. During 2016 they also made the Round of 16 in the FFA Cup, beating the 2016 A League Champions Adelaide United in the Round of 32 that year.
Krayem said Chandler had agreed to a 3-year coaching contract with Wynnum Wolves which will see him oversee the Under 18, Under 20 and Senior Men’s group and also work closely alongside Wolves’ Technical Director, Ken Mitchell, with the aim of building a smooth and productive pathway from junior to senior ranks at the club.
Chandler said he was excited by the prospect of working with a club that had a clear vision to invest in junior development and build Senior footballers from within. “Working with youth development systems that focus on the progression of players, both on and off the field, has always been one of my passions. I’m a firm believer that club success should be built from within by instilling the right culture across the organisation,” he said. “I’ve been around football in Queensland long enough to know that Wynnum Wolves already has some quality people on board in terms of their coaching and admin staff, and in my early discussions I’ve been very impressed by the commitment and passion shown by the club’s key senior players. I firmly believe this club has all the right ingredients in the mix to build success both on and off the pitch. That’s why I’m excited to take on this new role,” he said.
Chandler has invited all existing senior players to a meeting at Carmichael Park from 7pm on Tuesday evening, and will open 2020 season pre-season training and trials from Thursday, October 31st. Training and trials will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout November.
