Wynnum Wolves FC last night closed the curtain on Season 2020 – and its 99th year – with the club’s Senior Presentation Night at Carmichael Park.
The club’s Under 18s, Under 20s and First Team players and staff joined together to celebrate a successful 2020 season which saw these three Senior teams finish second, third and fourth respectively in the 2020 Football Queensland Premiers Leagues competition.
The club was also privileged to have four Wynnum Wolves’ Life Members – Terry Furphy, Bernie Crew, Richard Tarnawski and Wayne Gracey in attendance on the night – with Gracey presenting the major award of the evening, the prestigious Wayne Gracey Medal, to the club’s 2020 First Team Player of the Year, Jacob Krayem.
Three other First team players also received individual accolades on the night with Russell Parker winning the team’s Players’ Player Award; Michael Gilbank receiving the Tony McInless Medal for the club’s Rookie of the Year and Max Mikkola winning the Golden Boot.
2020 Head Coach, Matt Chandler, was full of praise for the collective efforts of the Senior group throughout 2020. “It was a challenging season, without a doubt, so to come back from the Covid break as strongly as we did and finish at the top end of the League with all three teams is an outstanding effort and speaks volumes about the quality and commitment of our players, both individually and collectively,” said Chandler, who also acknowledged the key contributions of 20s coach David McEvoy and 18s coach, Ben Crew to the success of the club’s Senior teams in 2020.
2020 Season Award winners for the 20s and 18s were:
20s: Golden Boot, Adam Krayem; Players’ Player, Harrison Linning; Coach’s Player, Kirill Saulov; and Best and Fairest, Harrison Schroeder.
18s: Golden Boot, Michael Parker; Players’ Player, Will King; Coach’s Player, Samuel Parr; and Best and Fairest, Michael Parker.
